Steamed Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Sauce

This Steamed Chocolate cake recipe is easy to make. You won’t need an electric mixer or an oven because it’s steamed on the stove. Serve it warm, topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. 

Steamed Chocolate Cake recipe Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cup flour
  • ½ cup of cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup of sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 oil
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp instant coffee
  • ½ cup hot water
  • Chocolate sauce:
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • ¼ cup of cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp cold water
  • 1 cup hot water
  • ¼ cup of sugar
  • 25g butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method:
1. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add the sugar and mix well together.
2. Add in the oil, vanilla extract, egg and milk, mix together. Dissolve the coffee in hot water and combine with the batter until smooth and no lumps.
3. Pour the batter to a baking tray lined with baking paper and steam for an hour. After 1 hour stick a toothpick into a cake. If it comes out clean, Then, it’s ready.

Chocolate sauce:
1. In a saucepan whisk the cornstarch, cocoa powder with the cold water. Add the hot water and mix until no lumps.
2. Add the butter and sugar and mix until the butter melts and sugar dissolves.
3. Stir constantly over the heat until it thickens, and the floury texture is gone. Stir in the vanilla extract and let it cool for a few minutes.
4. Turn the cake over and frost the cake upside down for a flat top.
Serve and enjoy.
